Day 13: KWEENY'S ULTIMATE WEREWOLF LIST

I'm finally doing it. I'm getting right into the viscera of Werewolf cinema. As you know by now I am a monster lover in general, but there is one monster who always seems to win me over with his sharp canines, furry muzzle and painful transformations. I was even flattered recently by a friend who called me, "The Biggest wolf fan I know." I am trying to get a short film off the ground called RED HANDED which will have a werewolf in it, so I guess I have earned such a title.

And I know I've done a post about werebeasts for my Monster of the Week posts, I haven't just done a general werewolf list of my favorite werewolf shows and movies. So here it is, guts and all.

*HOWL*

So in no particular order I give you...

KWEENY'S ULTIMATE WEREWOLF LIST!

DOG SOLDIERS
This movie has some of the best looking werewolves! I love how they stand upright and yet have these huge scary werewolf heads. Plus, it's gory as hell, and has a great story!

GINGER SNAPS
If you have been reading my blog all these years you probably know by now my love for this movie. It is one one of my all time favorite movies. It has a great premise, excellent acting, and Ginger's transformation is brutal and slow.

THE HOWLING
Another great werewolf transformation in this one. The series goes down hill from here, but it's still enjoyable to watch. If you are a werewolf fan, this will be one of your favs for effects!

AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
This is also one of my favorites for werewolf transformation. It is viscerally engaging, and has great acting, a cool story and even bits of dark humor thrown in.

TRICK OR TREAT
This movie is a lot of fun, even if it's cheesey as hell. I adore it, especially for having FEMALE WEREWOLVES! There is a story in this collection that always gets me giggling when I watch it, because I love the reversal when the women shift into wolves!

BAD MOON
Uncle Ted will always have a place in my heart, because while it's not the best werewolf I've seen on film, it's a favorite because it reminds me of my childhood. I love this  movie, and I will always love Uncle Ted.

THE WOLF MAN
CLASSIC WEREWOLF CINEMA. Of course I had to put it on this list. This movie for it's time was done amazingly, and I love black and white movies. Chaney knows how to portray the torture one cursed with the werewolf undergoes.

HEMLOCK GROVE
GYPSY WEREWOLVES! I friggen love this series. I also love that even though they used CGI for some of the transformation, it looks pretty cool. If you haven't seen Hemlock Grove, you need to find it on NETFLIX.

UNDERWORLD SERIES
Yes, Underworld is cheese. I wont argue that. But I loved the look of the wolves, and as the series progresses the werewolves just start looking cooler! Just look at this beast! If that doesn't get you wetting yourself at the thought of him staring you down, I dunno what will.

  1. Great list. I have to go with the classic Lon Chaney Jr. version as my favorite. :)
