So, what defines a "Video Nasty"? As the Head Hauntress wrote:
PORTRAIT OF A VIDEO NASTY BONUS POINTS!!!!!
"Video Nasty" was a “colloquial” term coined by the United Kingdom in 1982, which originally applied to a number of films distributed on VHS that were criticized for their violent content by the press, commentators such as Mary Whitehouse, and various religious organizations. In 1982 James Alan Ferman, the Secretary of the British Board of Film Censorship (BBFC) seized 22,000 video tapes in the London Metro area. These were test cases to see if the government could use the Obscene Publications Act of 1959 for violence, when it was usually used for Pornography. Out of these seizures, a list of 72 movies that could be successfully prosecuted was created by the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP). This came to be known as the VIDEO NASTY list. Let’s have a look at these and other maligned horror films as we watch some of Horror’s most controversial titles. Look for this banner on all of my movie marathon updates! |
My ladies are gonna Martyr themselves on movies!
Technically being a judge means I don't get to win, so I don't REALLY have to participate. But considering I used to do my own version of this before I even knew of this marathon, means I am going to do it this year AGAIN.
So now I gotta dig through my movie collection for some more nasty shit (I already started a pile, but I wanna go over it to make sure I didn't miss anything), queue up some stuff on Netflix and get cracking! I know my team is going to do awesome this year! My ladies are divas and will rock this marathon out of the park!
Stay tuned for my first summary in a few hours!
