KWEENY'S BONE ART COMMISSIONS!

As some of you who follow my instagram and personal Facebook page know, I am thinking of starting a small business making things. Artsy fartsy things. Currently I am working on some bone art and a re-purposed jewelry box.  I would love to make more things, and actually open up a storenvy somewhere to sell my wares, but it takes time to get enough product going. Plus, I need more funds to get more supplies to make a variety of things.

So to help raise some money so I can buy more materials to make more things (like I want to make bone jewelry, shadowboxes, wands, etc.) I thought up this idea...

COMMISSIONS!

That's right, I am offering up my current bone art work as commission! I have a large collection of cruelty free bones I am currently processing that could go to loving homes. I will make you a custom bone art piece, any design you fancy on a beautiful bone. Depending on the size of bone, detail of the concept, time used etc, determine the pricing below.. And you have to understand that the design needs to fit on a bone. You'll be surprised what fits on bones though. I do enjoy putting monsters on bones. ;)

Here are some examples of my work:

Shown in pictures are medium sized bones.

Smaller custom bone pieces will be $30 -$50 +shipping (I have very few of these so once they are gone, they are gone.)
Medium bones $60-$80+shipping
Larger bones $100-125+shipping

I will also paint any bones sent to me as well! Prices will vary depending on the bones you send, how clean they are, etc. I would love to do more skulls for folks, as I only have 2 skulls in my possession and he's in my personal collection. I need my coyote trickster friend! I recently acquired a new little skull. It was badly chewed up and in pieces, so I painted them up. Still working on some of the jaw pieces, but I finished the mostly whole skull:

I will ask for more if the design requested is very elaborate. All of these bones are cruelty free. No animals were harmed to make them, and all are processed, cleaned, hand painted and sealed by yours truly. I really enjoy doing them, and I want to make more and open a store.

So if you have a commission please contact me at queenie.writes@gmail.com with your name, size preference, and detailed description of the design you fancy. I will also need shipping info once the bone is finished.

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT SO FAR GUYS! I'm finally getting brave enough to do this because people have been asking me if I have a store or if I do commissions.

GORY KINGDOM UPDATES

Hey blade lovers! Long time no chat, I know. Life has been busy, as I have been doing projects outside of my blog at the moment. They have been eating my time here.

One of the things I've been up to is writing for an awesome horror magazine called Living Dead Magazine. I got an excellent article in it on Haunted Objects that you all might find interesting, if you are into that sort of thing. Hoping to write more articles for them in the future, as I love supporting horror. Please help support them, as they are filled with talent from all over! More horror is always good! Check them out on their site and Facebook page!

I've also been working on other people's blog events lately. It's making me miss my blog to be honest. I recently wrote an article for Guts and Grog, one of my blogging buds. He was doing a comedy week which was awesome to be a part of. Hopefully I can get myself organized to do more blog events!

Speaking of blog events, the HALLOWEEN HORROR MOVIE MADNESS PREVIEW is coming up! Guess who is a a judge this year? *smirks*

I've been trying to do a bunch of different hobbies of mine I have put on hold for other things, such as learning to straight razor shave, draw, and paint things.

I'm brainstorming a esty shop to sell some of my creative wears. I am mostly doing bone art there, with real bones from animals. All are found humanely and die from natural causes or are road kill finds. No animals are harmed in their making. But I process and remove the dead flesh myself, and then paint them up and make art or jewelry with them! Hopefully I will have that up, but if you are curious, I tend to post pictures of them on my instagram. I am very active on that stupid thing.

That's all the news for now! Hopefully in the next little while myself or Mad Jester will have posts up for you. In the meantime, shave some faces for me!

Kweeny Krafts: The Bone Collector

This isn't going to be a horror-centric post per say, but it might be considered macabre to some folks. Sometimes horror is a spiritual thing in my life.To me it’s not really macabre to be interested in these things. I’m just talking about a different obsession of mine I wish to explore in more depth someday. I don't show a lot of spiritual stuff here, but I thought I'd make an exception today and talk about BONES.

Some deer bones I am in the process of working on.
I love bones. All shapes, sizes, and creatures. Skulls and skeletons, shards and fragments, I love them all. I love them so much I have taken to decorating some of the ones I have at the moment. A friend last year gave me half a deer already slightly decomposed, and I did my first ever cleansing of the bones. It was an awesome experience for me, and I learned a lot. I made some interesting mistakes. But nothing that was severely damaging to the bones and luckily, it was just on a half of deer carcass. It seemed like the prefect thing to learn to clean bones on.

A lovely white deer bone, a parrot feather, and an owl feather with a bit of wolf fur and stones woven into it to use as a ritual feather. Also shown is my incense holder and fire-wand made of maple wood.
I have always loved bones, even as a small child. Bones are what is left behind when everything else rots away. To me, bones are like looking into the hidden parts of a creature, seeing the real, raw truth of what it was. Bones remind us of death, whether we want that reminder of not. I find bones comforting for that, as well as intensely beautiful. The stark reality of what they are centers me, and I want to spend my life around that calming presence. (Of course I do love skins, carapaces, and feathers as well. I like animal parts in general, but my favorite part is the bones.)

I only realized recently that I wanted more bones in my life, due to being told all my life in negative tones that “girls shouldn't play with bones.” It’s bullshit, sure, but you’d be surprised how deep bullshit can burrow in your skull if it’s said enough times. I've never been a “proper” girl, nor do I care to be. I identify as Gender Queer anyhow.

I love more than bones too, as you can see by the coyote tail beside my coyote jaw piece.
But despite the negativity, I have not stopped loving bones, and have had encounters with them throughout my life. I still have one of the first pieces of real bone I ever collected. It’s a piece of a coyote’s jaw that I add to costumes on occasion, or just keep on my alter. I love it. And while I may not have always had real bones in my life, I've had tons of fake skulls and bones always around me, and researched bones in secret for my entire childhood.

I want to learn to hunt, to experience the full process of death. To kill, clean, eat and reverently keep the bones of a deer I took down. I think it would be a useful skill for everyone to learn, not just for the bones. I want to keep the bones as a reminder of the act, to understand the cycle of the hunter and of life and death.

If you are going to eat meat, you should know what it’s like to hunt it.

My snake Geoffrey leaves me gifts of his skin as he grows, and so until I mount them in a frame they are wrapped around my little raven stuffy for safe keeping.
Perhaps my obsession with bones is because of being exposed to so much death in my life.  One day I hope to get a skull tattoo (probably a lovely sugar skull) to honor all my beloved dead. If I tried to get a tattoo of them all, I’d cover most my body. Death has been a constant companion, and while I haven’t always been okay with it by my side so much, I do continue to treat it like a friend more than an enemy. It’s been a struggle as I have seen the violent, terrible side of death thanks to events like my mother’s suicide.  But ultimately, it is what it is. You cannot change it, it changes you. And death never leaves your side, even if you wish to ignore its presence.

Living among the bones helps me find peace with death. It centers me and allows me to see the many aspects of death and how it affects my life and those around me. I don’t think of decorating bones as a desecration, but more of an act of reverence, like one might do to a sugar skull.  I would love for my beloved to be able to keep a part of me like my skull after I am gone, but I don’t know if that is possible. I would even allow him to have my skull decorated to reflect the soul of my bones.

Anyhow, after saying ALL THAT, let me show you my pretty little bone doodles I have made recently. I call them bone doodles because I am using markers at the moment, and just doodling on the bones. It’s really fun for me, and relaxing. Not sure what I am going to do with all of these. I have already given a few as gifts.

This one is more shiny as I put nail polish on to seal it. I want to try another method of sealing for the others, which are not sealed yet.

PS: If any of you lovely people have bones and you wish to impart them on me, I would be delighted to have them! Please email me and I will give you an address to send them to. I will give them a good home.  Some of my favorite animals if you are curious are ravens, crows, coyotes, snakes, sharks, spiders, beetles, bats and my all-time favorite, wolves. I will take any bones/bits of animals though, as all are beautiful to me.

I’m also working on an in progress “Death Shrine” that is going to be shaped like a coffin and full of mementos that people have sent me, as well as my own from dead loved ones. I made the first one a couple years after my mother died to help me work through some of the grief. When my friends saw it they were moved, and sent me things from their loved ones. I still have all those mementos, and with the help of my husband we are in time going to make an even better shrine than the first one which was made of paper-mâché. I think of myself as its keeper now, and find it helps with that acceptance of death stuff I try to cultivate in my life.I'm also really honored to hold such special tokens of death from others.

So yeah, I am the bone collector. I love them bones.

HHMMMADNESS Day 23

Today I did get some movies in, although a few were repeats. But it was enjoyable to watch Repo! The Genetic Opera, Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus while carving pumpkins and drinking delicious pumpkin-flavored hot chocolate with Halloween Peeps in them.

Oh yes, it was as good as it sounds!

So warm and tasty! Wanna see our awesome pumpkin escapades? Pumpkin guts for everyone!

I left my pumpkin at my friends house like some mother abandoning her child on a stranger's doorstep. See why I shouldn't have kids now? Maybe they can love it better than I can.
Now here are my movies/shows of the day that were not doubles...

DRACULA (1hr/2013)

Kweeny's Rating: Yay! Vampires that dont Sparkle!

Summary: It was the first episode of the new show, but it was pretty good for a start. I like the guy playing Dracula, he's hunky and captures the arrogance, the passion and the smexy bad ass-ness that is Dracula. I like the vengeance angle they are going with too, and the rebelliousness that only Dracula can do with such class. Wanna see where they go with this for sure.

HOCUS POCUS (96 mins/1993)

Kweeny's Rating: One of the few, awesome Disney movies!

Summary: I ADORE this movie. I know all the curses by heart, and can't help but sing Bette Midler's version of "I Put A Spell On You" every time I hear it. The Sanderson sisters are awesome witches. And how many Disney films do you know of have BONUS POINTS in them for the MADNESS? This one does! They actually kill a child in it! DUDE!

Day 16: Kweeny's Halloween Haul #2

Okay, so today I didn't have time to watch movies, but I did get some Halloween shopping done. It was quite the trip, and I had some friends help keep me from trying to crawl into the Halloween store and live in the walls like a cockroach. They also made sure I didn't bankrupt myself trying to buy everything.

So here is my haul of the day, most of which is stuff to help me make my Beetlejuice costume, which I have lovingly dubbed my Kweenyjuice outfit. Just pretend Beetlejuice and I got mixed in a blender and that's the creature that I am creating. Yes, it sounds like an abomination to me too. BUT IT WILL BE GLORIOUS.

Let me show you my current haul...

I got this neat magnet at the Halloween store. I love sugar skulls.
I got the green hair dye for my costume, the purple and green eye shadows to see what I can do with them, and because they were there...
I BOUGHT THESE BAD ASS DEADPOOL PINS!
I also got this neat skirt for my costume...
And this really cute shirt, which is a little bit grey, but I think it fits the Beetlejuice look.
Then I saw this AWESOME SHIRT with one of my favorite monsters on it and I had to have it.
And the back is all cut into squares!

After my epic day of shopping I relaxed with Cinnful Apple Cider I put into my new cup, and some tasty Halloween Peeps! Because I am preparing you see...

Creepmas Day 08: Kweeny Draws Krampus!

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CREEPMAS MY MONSTERS GIVE TO YOU:

On a whim I decided tonight to draw. Not just doodle, but get down in in there and draw. I don't do it often, because I have a lot of...issues associated with it. To be perfectly honest with you guys, I sometimes downright hate drawing. It reminds me of bad childhood memories and of my mother, who was an amazing artist who killed herself. She was very talented, and very critical over everything I created for her.

So yeah, I think you can understand why drawing doesn't happen very often for me.

But sometimes I do it despite everything. And the whole time I fight the process like a honey badger, grunting and grumbling. Apparently I even hold my breath sometimes, at least that's what Lord Bearington says. He watched me as I made my most recent monstrosity. I had no idea. Guess it goes to show you how much I fight drawing. I suppose if I tried to do it more, it wouldn't be such a trail...

But for all this angst, I did draw something. I do LIKE making things. I like the act of creation and I am very supportive of others. My own work? It's a love/hate relationship. I have to wrestle demons to do it, and it becomes a huge production in my head. *sigh* And this thing I drew is a monster, so it was at least somewhat fun to draw. YAY! And it's one of my favorite monsters for this time of year...KRAMPUS!

He's kinda cute isn't he? And his expression is priceless. Lord Bearington says he wants to get me charcoals to draw with, because my art style would suit them. Jeeze, I haven't done art classes since high school so I don't know crap about art anymore.

I also altered some cards to give to folks. Wanna see my silly Creepmas cards?

The eyeball is my fav, I have to say...

You know what's the worst part about being an artist? THIS:

Feel my left-handed RAGE! Stupid smudging!

How are your Creepmas Krafts going?

Creepmas Day 07: The First Candy Cane

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CREEPMAS MY MONSTERS GIVE TO YOU:

If you are unaware, Candy Canes are important to my festive celebrations. They put me in a good mood, and I love how they taste. With Halloween, I love most the candy that comes out other than that orange and white crap they call Candy Corn. UGH! Hate the stuff! But with Christmas, I find most the stuff that they call TREATS taste like ass. There are a few candy/treats I enjoy this time of year: A good pumpkin pie, Gingerbread, anything chocolate coated. But the most festive treat I enjoy that is considered a staple of the season, is Candy Canes.

Candy Canes are PURE AWESOME.

Guess what I got?

*Choir music ensues*
I was so damn happy when Lord Bearington bought me this! It made me feel all warm and fuzzy with Creepmas cheer! Just look at me dig in:

OM NOM NOM!
I'm such a happy beastie! So happy, I started sharing it with my monster pals.

Mmm...tasty! Can I share with Jack?
Your candy cane will be legendary...even in hell!
And as I was sharing it around, because I'm a pal like that, a few little friends dropped in for a visit.

I think my Candy Cane madness summoned some Elder Gods.
I think they were feeling left out. So I offered them a little bit.

I think 'Thulu isn't to keen on them. But 'Narly loved them!
So now I am ready to make festive things! I even got a few things to start off with...

Cards...

And snowflake making!

Let my dark cheer transform these items into gothic awesome! *Kweeny steeples her fingers while devouring the power of CANDY CANES!*

Day 05 Kweeny Krafts Spider Snowflakes!

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CREEPMAS MY MONSTERS GIVE TO YOU:

One of the things I like about Creepmas is being crafty. I like making things for people, as decorations or gifts when I'm not lazy and putting it off. I decided today I'd make some snowflakes. Not just any snowflakes though, I wanted to make some spiders. I love snowflakes, and I love the scene in Nightmare Before Christmas when Jack is trying his hand at them and keeps making spiders.

Well I decided to try my hand at it. I found a pattern on the web, (for those who don't wanna search themselves, here's the one I used.) and started making my snowflake spider army!

First I had to print out the pattern and cut off the access paper.

Then I folded the paper in half, like so and started cutting...

Then I cut along the outside of the lines like this.

Next I had to do the more delicate cutting inside the pattern to make the body and legs. And once that was done, I had the finished product:

MY SPIDER ARMY! They will be legion! I think they are adorable, and very appropriate for Oregon. Oregon has many, many spiders, with big beautiful webs you gotta watch out for. I don't know if I am gonna color them in or leave them as is. I kinda like how they look. Maybe I'll stick them in my window and show them off for the world. My hubby just loves them, which makes me happy.

Stay tuned for more crazy crafting madness during Kweeny's Creepmas Countdown!
