ON THE THIRD DAY OF CREEPMAS MY MONSTERS GIVE TO YOU:
Last year I created a monster.
I had learned many things about the holiday season, some more than I cared to know and others that entertained me. One thing that entertained me a little too much was the idea of a demonic creature known a Krampus. For those of you who don't know, here's a quick Wikipedia description of what Krampus really is:
Krampus is a beast-like creature from the folklore of Alpine countries thought to punish bad children during the Christmas season, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards nice ones with gifts. Krampus is said to capture particularly naughty children in his sack and carry them away to his lair.
Krampus is represented as a beast-like creature, generally demonic in appearance. The creature has roots in Germanic folklore. Traditionally young men dress up as the Krampus in Austria, southern Bavaria, South Tyrol, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia during the first week of December, particularly on the evening of 5 December, and roam the streets frightening children with rusty chains and bells. Krampus is featured on holiday greeting cards called Krampuskarten. There are many names for Krampus, as well as many regional variations in portrayal and celebration.
Look at him! The kid is scared shitless! AS HE SHOULD BE! |
He sounds AWESOME doesn't he? I love the fact he's portrayed as kind of a counterpart to Saint Nick, and he is known to beat bad children and drag them away! It just tickles me. I got to read a ton of good stories and variations last year on this creepy demon, and decided on a whim to terrorize my friends and dress up as my own Krampus demon, which became a kind of combination of Krampus, me and Saint Nick!
The result...people loved it! They loved it so much that some have even asked me to dress up again and come play with their children! HAHAHAHAHA!
So now I have created my own legend: Kweeny Krampus! All I did wad grab a bunch of random costume stuff I had lying around, made my voice all creepy and stalked the neighborhood looking for bad children! I got a few honks from cars, scared some dogs, and got some laughter from adults! I bet those people in the cars were very bad last year...
Kweeny Krampus is looking forward to spreading "cheer" again this year. . If you'd like to see more of him, do let me know. If you're good, you might get a little present from him! He did promise last year he'd come back and visit me. He's still trying to find a way to punish me that will actually be effective and not just make me laugh and hug him. I hugged him last year and I think that scared him.
Oh well. I can't help it if I love monsters!
There are some cool "Krampus" posts out there....
