Ah, it’s that time of year again. When the dead rise and
hunger for human flesh, all while walking across cities, towns and blogs,
looking for brains. Last year I was completely insane and did a weird little story, where I incorporated
fellow blogger friends. This year I was
inspired to do something a little different, when a friend and fellow blogger Cabin Goddess told me she loves zombies.
You love zombies do you? WELL KWEENY TAKES THAT AS A
CHALLENGE!
Of course, I promised her I would compile a list of awesome
zombie stuff to entertain her. So here is a MEGA AWESOME ZOMBIE CRAP list to
hopefully keep her and you readers engaged with the undead!
KWEENY’S ULTIMATE MUST READ FOR ZOMBIE LOVERS!
Let’s start with books shall we? Because every good zombie
fan should know how to read. And if you don’t, eat some brains of a reader and
absorb their power, so you can then read these books! I hand-picked these books
and they range from comics to non-fiction.
Tasty literature of the dead…
Fiction: The Rising by Brian Keene
He’s the man when it comes to survival horror. He has a
whole series too of horrific zombie books, but you should definitely start with
The Rising. It’s a brilliant, creepy book written from the perspective of a
desperate man just trying to find his son. If you think Walking Dead is
awesome, you’ll love Keene’s stuff.
Comics: The Walking Dead
Now I am a fan of the show, but it’s got nothing on the
comic. This series is as brutal as the show, and the characters in my opinion
are more fleshed out than in the show. And if you think Michonne’s bad ass in the
show, you haven’t seen anything yet. (She's my fav in the comic)
Fiction: World War Z by Max Brooks
This horrific book is an oral history told by many survivors
of the start, during, and aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. This gives the book many interesting perspectives on the zombie outbreak. It’s an intense read, and very
well written, keeping the reader engaged throughout the book. A must read for
zombie lovers.
Non-Fiction: Zombies!: An Illustrated History of the Undead
by Jovanka Vuckovic
This book is probably the most complete compendium I have
ever read about the zombie phenomenon. Jovanka is thorough in her research, and
touches on everything from Voodoo Zombies, to Zombies in pop culture. She shows
the evolution of the creature, and how we’ve taken it from the realms of myth
into its own cult following. And there are lots of pictures!
Non-Fiction: The
Undead and Philosophy: Chicken Soup for the Soulless (Popular Culture and
Philosophy) by Richard Greene and K. Silem Mohammad
For the more deep thinking zombie lovers among us, I bring
you this book, dedicated to asking the deeper questions when discussing the
undead. Questions such as: What is a p-zombie? How horrible would it really be
to become undead? Can the dead be held accountable for what they do? And many
more. There’s also articles on vampires
too, and what is the real difference between a vampire and a zombie. It’s a
great read.
Hope you enjoyed my post! Now shuffle over to these deadites and see what zombie goodness they have in store for you:

Those are great recommendations. I'll have to check out The Undead and Philosophy. I'm really curious how they're going to manage to turn World War Z into a movie. Have fun zombie walking.
ReplyDeleteFantastic zombie reads. Thanks--I really wanna read Keane. I keep meaning to.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! My husband will be happy if I get the last book so I can stop bugging him with my philosophical zombie questions!
ReplyDeleteHere from the zombie walk. I've only read Brian Keene so far; really good.
ReplyDeleteMy fiance keeps prodding me to buy The Walking Dead comic series but I steadfastly refrain. I don't want to know the story! I prefer to wait and watch everything unfold on the TV series.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, cool mention of books. Right now I am reading "Sven the Zombie Killer."
Following your blog now. I'll be lurking for you.
Cheers.
